General Directions for Taking Medication:
Take only as directed about the same time every day.
DO NOT stop taking the medicine even if you start to feel better without talking to your doctor first. This may worsen some conditions.
If you miss a dose, take the medicine as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose take only 1 dose. DO NOT double up the doses.
If dizzy due to hypotension (low blood pressure), change positions slowly.

Diabetics need to monitor glucose (sugar) levels carefully. This medicine may alter levels.
Talk to your doctor about exercise, tips to stop smoking, and less salt in your diet.

Keep enough medication on hand especially during holidays, weekends and vacations.
Keep a sweater or coat on hand. This medicine may make you hypersensitive to cold areas.

See your doctor regularly to monitor the effectiveness of this medication with blood tests, blood pressure screenings, and a physical exam.
Contraindications:
Allergies - Hypersensitivity to this medication or its components
Severe congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema, shock related to heart failure, bradycardia (abnormally slow heart rate) and heart block
Use with caution in:
Pregnancy and Breast Feeding - May not be safe for your baby. Talk to your doctor about risks and benefits.
Patients with kidney disease, asthma, diabetes, thyroid disorders, or a history of severe allergic reactions - May require smaller doses to control symptoms.
Elderly patients - May require smaller doses to control symptoms.
Common Side Effects:
May occur during the first few days after beginning therapy, but usually resolve:
Fatigue; body weakness; dizziness or lightheadedness especially upon arising; drowsiness; blurred vision; insomnia; anxiety; stuffy nose; constipation, diarrhea or nausea and vomiting; impotence, increased urinating frequency or retention, or hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
Serious Side Effects:
Notify your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following:
An abnormally slow pulse, cold hands and feet, confusion, mental depression, fever, edema (swollen hands and feet), a sore throat, and a tendency to bleed or bruise easily.
Allergic reaction symptoms such as a red skin rash; itching; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat; wheezing; chest pain; and difficulty breathing
Interactions:
Drug - There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, which will alter the action of this medication. Some include cold remedies with nasal decongestants, heart medications, other antihypertensives, amphetamines, thyroid medicines, or diabetic medications.
It is extremely important that you consult with your doctor about dosing schedules if you take a variety of medications along with this medication. DO NOT take any new medication without talking with your doctor first.
Warnings:
Overdose - May cause severe dizziness, drowsiness, fainting or seizures; shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, and bluish skin and fingernails; or an abnormally slow heart rate.
DO NOT drive or operate heavy machinery until you determine the extent of dizziness and drowsiness. Your doctor may need to adjust your dose to help control side effects.
